As a prolific educator James has taught in Yamaha Music Schools, is currently the principal drum teacher in Scotland’s Ferguson’s Academy of Music and is also the drum instructor at Belmont House School. At the young age of 27 James has taught hundreds of regular students. He also runs www.onlinedrumschool.vhx.tv , an interactive drum lesson streaming site which includes tuition on styles such as:-

  • Jazz drumming;

  • Latin American grooves and rhythms;

  • Pop grooves and fills;

 and concepts such as

  • Dynamics;

  • Soloing;

  • Form Playing;

  • Textural Ideas;

  • Rudimental Applications

Such teaching experience has allowed James access to a wide variety of formal, classic and modern drum education material, allowing him to create an effective approach to his drum set playing and teaching syllabus. James has also studied with drummers such as Thomas Lang, Brian Frasier-Moore, Mark Guiliana and Dom Famularo. James is also currently a member of the Sabian Education Network and D'addario Education Collective.

James teaches from beginner to advanced, and his specialist areas are; chart reading, traditional styles, improvising, drum set creativity development and hand technique.  

​

As well as drum tuition, James also offers coaching for any aspiring drum teachers wishing to learn drum teaching techniques and student syllabus planning/management.
